Cleaning, Hygiene, Disinfection, Sanitization: what is the difference?

Unfortunately, these words have often been misused, regardless of the differences in meaning and application.
What are these differences?
When should one term be used over another?
Let’s get some clarity.
CLEANING
Cleaning is carried out using environmental cleaning/hygienising products – the two terms are equivalent – which remove dirt by mechanical or physical action.
HYGIENE
This is the equivalent of cleaning and is intended to make the environment hygienic, that is to clean the environment by eliminating the harmful substances present.
Products without an authorisation from the Italian Ministry of Health, which are labelled with indications on their activity, for example against germs and bacteria, are not products with a proven disinfectant activity but are simply environmental cleaners (sanitisers).
AMO-oxide
AMO-oxide is an hygienizer with a broad range of action, based on a stabilised solution of 6% of hydrogen peroxide and silver salts.
Application & Use:
Ideal for filters and batteries of air conditioners, fan coils, curtains, fabrics, windows, sanitary ware, doors and handles, tools and work tools, offices, desks, etc.
For delicate surfaces, dilute the product 1:10 (one part of product and 10 parts of water).
Do not use on monitors, LCD and plasma screens.
AMO-clor
0.5% sodium hypochlorite liquid product (5,000 ppm of active chlorine), used to clean and hygienize chlorine-resistant washable surfaces (walls, floors, windows, sanitary ware, doors and handles, tools and work tools, offices, desks, etc.).
For delicate (chlorine-resi- stant) surfaces, dilute the product 1:4 (one part of product and 4 parts of water). Do not use on monitors, LCD and plasma screens.
Application & Use:
Spray directly on the surfaces to be treated, or onto a cloth and rub manually. Leave it on for about 3 minutes and rinse if necessary.
ALWAYS ensure that there is no risk of discoloration of the treated materials by testing AMO-clor on a small part of the surface first.
CLEANER
Consists in the removal of dirt and microorganisms, with a subsequent reduction of the microbial load.
Cleaning is mandatory before disinfection and sterilization because the dirt is rich in microorganisms that actively multiply in it and can reduce the activity of disinfectants.
CLIMA SAFE
Hygienizing degreasing detergent for filters, lamellar packs and surfaces in general. Concentrated mixture of surfactant, hygienizing, wetting and alkaline salts.
Product designed to perform its degreasing and hygienizing function at the same time
on the residues of dirt, dust and grease that are deposited on the lamellar packs of the finned batteries of the convectors and on the filters of the air conditioners.
DISINFECTION
Is a treatment to reduce the microbial load of environments, surfaces and materials and must be carried out using disinfectant products (biocides or medical and surgical devices) authorized by the Ministry of Health.
These products must be labelled with the registration/authorisation number.
SPRAY MEDICAL
Disinfectant action
Thanks to its component, SPRAY MEDICAL guarantees a wide spectrum of action with regard to fungi gram+ and grambacteria, (genus which also includes the Legionella bacterium).
Locations
SPRAY MEDICAL disinfects and deodorize small rooms, medical clinic, changing rooms, closets, areas in which bad smells could create. Guarantee the disinfection of autos, buses, ambulances. Indicated for the treatment of cooling systems, fan coils.
Objects
SPRAY MEDICAL rapidly disinfects objects (ex: phones, WC axis on public places) which contact could be difficult. Indicated for the disinfection of shoes (bowling) mattresses, and pillows (retirement houses).
PHARMA G
Disinfectant action
Thanks to its component, PHARMA G disinfectant guarantees a wide spectrum of action with regard to fungi, gram+ and gram- bacteria (genus which also includes the Legionella bacterium).
Cleansing action
PHARMA G DISINFECTANT contains wetting agents with high cleansing effect and isopropyl alcohol with solving action.
Deodorizing action
PHARMA G DISINFECTANT totally removes all microorganisms that cause unpleasant smells and pleasantly perfume all ambient with lemon freshness.
SANITIZATION
It is a “series of cleaning and/or disinfection procedures and operations”, which includes the maintenance of good air quality, changing the air frequently in all environments.
